Intel acquired Basis, A Fitness Tracker Company!

Intel enters wearable technology momentum. The Chip-maker Intel has constantly shown their interest over wearable technology. With its new fleet, we might expect something big from this hardware tech giant in the near future. Intel has acquired Basis Science Inc., for an undisclosed amount (rumored roughly around $150 million).

A Basis is a wrist-based health tracker and online personal dashboard designed to help people easily incorporate healthy habits into their daily routines. Their wrist band, an advanced health tracker tracks heart rate, motion, sweat and sleep. With its multiple sensors the device can sense whether a person is walking, running, biking or sleeping. Even it can classify your sleep into Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep or deep sleep. Each of these devices cost $200. This watch was launched in 2013 and an updated its version last month.

According to Intel New Devices Group vice president and general manager Mike Bell, “As we accelerate our position in wearables, we will build upon this foundation to deliver products that bring people greater utility and value”. Basis Science CEO Jef Holove will join as general manager for Intel’s New Devices Group.

Basis will be an integral part of Intel’s new devices group.
